Yesterday, Sabriena and I did something we swore we'd never do.

We gave our four year old a microphone and let him loose on our VOIP server. I swore I'd never do this, because of all the idiots who give their kids mics and set them up on games like Call of Duty or Counter Strike (the latter being exceedingly annoying because it's very sound-dependent, and it's not a good thing to have some 12 year old chattering away in your ear when you're listening for footsteps!). But we're on a private VOIP server, so I rationalize that at least I'm not sticking him on XBL or something. Maybe also because of my previous ire, I can teach him to have decent voice comm skills before his voice breaks.

We're all playing Minecraft with a few friends from our Moodoo gaming clique, and because Duncan wanted to play with us on the PC instead of on the PS3 where he normally plays, it meant he had to be all the way in the back room where the desktop is while we sit on our laptops.

This meant a lot of yelling up the house, which I wasn't particularly fond of. Yesterday I found Sabriena's old headset - a really terrible cheap Logitech on-ear setup - and set him up. I'm debating setting him up with Push to Talk, but I'm not sure how well that will work. At the moment it's a lot of telling him to "hush" when there's inane babble because he's shooting arrows at something.

I'm also working on putting Debian onto an old laptop and I'll see if that will run MC, so he can be out here with us instead of at the other end of the house.
