Happy New Year!

This year is our first new year in the new house, and it struck me that I didn’t check the smoke alarms when we moved in (I normally do that, and then replace the batteries habitually with the new year). Oops!

Tested the front one, works fine, no issues there. Fresh battery, away we go.

Tested the rear one and… it’s dead. Fresh battery… it’s still dead? It chirped very weakly when I held the test button down. So we’ve been here about six months with no smoke detection. Double oops!

Off to Hammer Barn to pick up a two-pack of the cheapest smoke detectors that had good reviews, and replaced that one. But what to do with the old one that still works? I reasoned that with a bunch of elderly computer equipment in the garage running 24/7, I probably want one out there. Will we hear it in bed? I’m not sure, but what else am I going to do with it?

Other than that, the new year came and went fairly uneventfully.
