New (to me) Laptop

The eldest of my two sisters, Linda has moved back into my parent’s place after Jess moved out to Wangaratta, and while unloading her stuff I noticed an old laptop in with it all. After some minor negotiations she agreed to let me use it, since she’s not anymore, so I set about checking it out.

It’s a Compaq Presario C732TU, and amazingly enough works quite well with the hard disk out of our busted-ass Acer in it (which means I can just swap Linda’s old hard disk back into it when I’m done with it). I also swapped the RAM out of the Acer as well, now giving the Compaq 3GB as opposed to 1GB (which is nowhere near enough for Windows Vista).

All the drivers and such appeared to work fine - either the Atheros Wireless card that’s in the Compaq is compatible with the one that’s in the Acer, or the aforementioned card is supported natively by Windows and doesn’t need the manufacturer driver (I know for a fact that the one in the Acer is not supported natively by Windows).

Everything else is updating as I write this, but so far it looks like it’ll be a perfectly reasonable unit. It’s not a gaming laptop by any stretch of the imagination, but it’ll do for work and such for the time being. Before everything went to shit with the Transit I had been shopping around for gaming laptops and almost pulled the trigger on one (which is probably just as well I didn’t, as we ended up needing that money instead).

But for now, this one will do just fine.
