Crossing the Capricorn
Upon
arriving in Rockhampton, we checked out the information centre to see if
there was anywhere good to camp for free (there really isn’t) and just
to generally let Duncan out of the car for a while. The
information centre we stopped at was situated (apparently) right in the
Tropic of Capricorn, with a little compass/sundial thing indicating so
direct it outside.
Having never been into the tropics in either hemisphere for any length of time, it’s quite amazing the stark difference in weather just a few hundred kilometers makes. Winter in Rocky is pretty close to easily summer in Indiana, in terms of heat and humidity, and it’s successfully reminded me of how much I hate humidity. If we get a chance in the next couple of days, we’re going to check out the local zoo, which has the added bonus of being free admission.
