After a seemingly eternal hiatus, we're finally mobile again. We managed to scratch together enough cash to buy and set up an old Falcon panel van, and we can now run it for ourselves. This means we get all of the income, but we also shoulder 100% of the responsibility - not an easy thing to stomach after driving around someone else's car that's left you high and dry multiple times in the last six months.
She's been on her maiden voyage, and I wasn't happy with the steering noise (how it passed a road worthy check, I'm not sure, but I don't have time to argue) so we had the local mechanic in Clunes give it a once over. I'd thought the noise was coming from the left side tie rod, but it turns out it's a warn Pitman arm. This is why I pay professionals when I can, and only fix my own cars when I can't avoid it.
I'm still not happy with the fuel economy, but we need to be out making some money. I'll pay someone to rebuild the carb during Christmas break.
It's kind of funny that I was driving an XD station wagon before I left for the USA, and now I'm driving a car not much newer a solid twelve years later.
