The Suburban's getting there!
I'm almost caught up on the maintenance for the Suburban, and I'm starting to move on with the "making it nicer to ride in" phase. Since the last update, I've stuck new (to me) tires/rims on it, so it actually has tread again... I've now replaced all three belts, so no more squeals... It's had an oil change and complete tuneup, and I'm gearing up to change the transmission fluid.
I tried out some engine treatment called Seafoam, and you can see the results in a blog post on my truck blog. The results so far are pretty good, I'd basically written the stuff off as junk right after I'd used it, and while it's still too soon to tell, the results look pretty good. An unexpected result, when I stomped on it on the way home tonight the truck actually seemed like it had a little more pep!
Ball Joint Weekend
Well, I just finished the ball joints on our Suburban, and I have to say I'm in no hurry to do that again. It's a colossal job, which you need all the right tools for and for each tool you don't have the exact right version of, add another hour or two to the job. I spent about 9 hours yesterday doing the driver's side, and about 5 hours today doing the passenger side.
I don't have any brake fluid, which I have to have before I can drive it anywhere... so I have to wait until tomorrow to ride my bike up to the auto parts place and pick some up. Then I can bleed the brakes and finally take it for a test drive.
If the shaking isn't fixed, I swear I'll cry. ![]()
454Chevy.com - almost over before it starts.
Our truck's front suspension's been acting up, took it in to have a quote on repairing it and they want about $800 to replace all four ball joints. The truck's not really worth that, but I have looked into it and I'm reasonably certain it's something I can do myself.
So for a while we were thinking about replacing it urgently, but we've decided just to go ahead and put the work in, and save up for a better vehicle that's light on gas. Which is good because my new truck website would kinda suck if I didn't have a 454 Chevy to write about. ![]()
