Pardon the car talk.
So we don’t really have too much money to spare at the moment – most of it’s going back into growing our business and ensuring it’s got enough working capital to tick over. But we’ve been scouring Craig’s List looking for cheap cars for sale and so far we’ve found a few!
There was a really cute little old Volkswagen Beetle on there that “needed an ignition switch” – now I’ve been around the block a few times to know that when people describe a problem as “X”, they really mean “X+X+X+X+X” but an older Volkswagen is a really simple engine to work on and I was confident if it really was just an electrical problem I could fix it no problems. Unfortunately, we weren’t willing to dip into our savings and by the time the next batch of money comes in it was gone.
There was a really nice ’94 Grand Am that had a blown head gasket, the guy bought the gaskets, had the head re-faced and then never put back together. The price was ridiculously cheap for how nice the car was, so I think there’s more to this story. To me, “never got it put back together” kinda suggests “couldn’t figure out how to get it back together”, plus I’m leery of buying anything built after about 1980 that’s popped a head gasket because it’s amazing how many times the head gets messed up in the process of it either happening or the person trying to enact repairs.
Finally, slightly out of our price range? A 1955 Chevrolet 2 Door Post project with a bunch of parts but no engine. My wife let me call about it because apparently we need a car that runs.
Bah.
