‘burban is home again

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

So after spending the night in a Walmart parking lot, our Suburban is home in bed again. I’m pretty sure it’s a stuck brake shoe – as I rolled it off the truck that he came home on, the driver’s side wheel rolled – albeit squealing the whole time – but still, that’s a “good sign”. Considering a good samaritan who stopped by to help us out was actually driving around looking for some kid who broke into his truck, I didn’t sleep so good with him not in the driveway last night.

I’ll probably leave it until we get some warmer weather, then take the brake drum off and take a look-see. Hopefully nothing’s grenaded in there or whatever and I can free it up… Maybe some new brake shoes and spring kit or whatever, worst case scenario I’m hoping I might have to have the drum turned… Hopefully it’s not scored beyond all hope.

But yeah, it’s home now so I don’t have to worry about someone breaking into it, or it getting impounded, or whatever. On the bright side, the motor runs great. :(

The ‘burban is alive!

I got our truck running again this morning. Something weird happened with the spark plugs, I’m not entirely sure what. But I replaced them all, charged the battery up (he sat 3 weeks in sub-freezing weather) and now he runs again.

What he really needs is a garage to sleep in, to keep him out of the elements – put some windows in it with some Cheap Blinds for the summer, enclose all the sides but possibly leave the front open if I can’t afford anything to cover it. I think sometimes everyone in our family (including me) forget that he’s almost a quarter of a century old. Unfortunately though I can’t afford the $1,000 or so it’ll cost to build a tin garage right now.

I can dream though.
