I want a new PC :(

Friday, March 20th, 2009

Our PCs have served us well, but it’s about time for a new one. I would normally just buy some parts to upgrade, but the problem is we bought our PCs at a very awkward time – so they don’t have far to go. I could buy a crappy old Athlon64 chip and shove it in there, and some more RAM… but at the end of the day it’s not really worth it.

I’d still be stuck with a crappy SiS chipset, and an AGP slot which means I get to spend well over a hundred bucks for even yesterday’s piece of junk graphics card. The most RAM these boards support is 2GB – hardly good enough for anything. With the amount it would cost us to upgrade both our desktops, we could probably buy a couple new desktops for a little more and still have lots more cheap upgrades ahead – instead of spending the same amount to max-out 3 year old PCs.

Our laptop is awesome, but unfortunately it’s sick. I wrote about it ages ago, apparently laptops are allergic to caffeine – I think I can fix it, but I’m scared to break it worse. We’re probably going to buy the parts shortly, but I’ve been scouting through laptop deals for a new one just in case the worst happens.

But I’d really like to be able to play things like Left4Dead, which won’t run at all. Team Fortress 2 runs, but lags like crazy – I get to look like the noob medic who stands there to get sniped, when in actual fact I’m gettin an average of 5fps for about the first 15 minutes. :(

Wordpress theme: BlueDoodlez

This theme I’m currently working on is in-part a throwback to the late 90s hacker website “Digital Avatar’s Matrix”. Not only was DA a great friend and a fantastic HTML hacker, he was nice enough to point his site at my programming page when he disappeared. Actually, that’s the reason cyber squatters are still hogging my fwaggle.org domain. Thanks a lot, asshole.

I have, of course, taken some artistic license – most noticeably in the “cute” department, but the overall color scheme is inspired by DA’s Matrix – even though not much else takes it’s inspiration from the site. I really wish the original site was online to show folks, but even though archive.org has the cjb.net site saved, the new owners of the xoom.com domain (where the actual files were served from) have decided to disallow everything with robots.txt, and therefore archive.org won’t show any of the old versions they have saved. The same goes for my fwaggle.net website, unfortunately. :(
