Work Sucks... hehehe
The line between work and play is a little blurred at times in my life. There's some stuff - like WoW and MapleStory - that I just can't pass off as work no matter how I spin it. Then there's other kinds of play that I can pass off as work, particularly if someone's trying to bug me while I'm engaging in such activity. This includes not only things like solving a particularly complicated scripting problem, but also playing a game of which I can sell as a service.
Our hosting company, Sabrienix, is looking at expanding into offering gameservers, and as such we've been running a few gameservers as "tests", which often for me just means playing on one computer and keeping an eye on the gauges on another. Because of the nature of our machines, we currently only offer things which aren't terribly sensitive to latency, things like Trackmania (as far as I know we're one of the few hosts that provide servers for those games).
Lately, because Valve had Half-life 1 on sale last week and I bought it again because I'm a cheap skate, we've been playing around with HLDS. You see I don't really like to try and sell something without being intimately familiar with it, I'm in an awkward predicament when someone needs assistance with their Wordpress blog that I'm hosting, because I don't use Wordpress - I am not going to go through that with someone as fickle as a gameserver customer. So the upshot to that is that I get to mess around with video games like Team Fortress 2 and Half-Life and call it work.
We're hopefully going to be adding a few more web hosting machines early next year, and then by around spring I would like to be able to get a decent machine or two on a good network for gaming to start hosting dedicated servers for gaming purposes, so I can start putting my experiences to good use. Until then, BBL Steam. ![]()
I wonder if staring at the sky in Half-life counts as blue light acne treatment?
